Vowels Introduction

There are 14 vowels in the Hmong alphabet. 6 Single vowels and 8 double vowels

Here are some tips to help you better memorize the vowel sounds.
By relating the sound to something you already know, it will help you easily remember it.
This is called Associative Learning.

The hmong vowel A makes the same sound as the english word "ahhh".

The vowel I makes the exact same sound as the english long vowel sound "e". Like the letter "e" in the word me.

The vowel O makes the same sound as the letters "all" in the word ball.

The vowel U makes the sound of the letters "oo" in the word boo, like when you are booing someone or some sports team.

The vowel AI makes the same sound as the english long vowel sound "i". Like the letter "i" in the word kite.

The vowel AU makes the same sound as the letters "ou" in the word 'ouch'.

The vowel IA makes the sound similair to when you combine the english short vowel i with english short vowel a

As you are studying the sounds, relate them to something you already know and it can go a long way in helping you remember it.
