Tawb muag lom, Inside this item you put rice and money/silver/gold chain etc. Suppose to increase your wealth for the coming year. Reminder Whatever you put in, you can't use for one full year until you do this again next year.
Then you wrap it with paper money

Four rice patty (ncuav) to be placed around the tawb muag lom If you don't have any ncuav, pound some rice and flatten them like a rice patty

9.

Four shot glasses (Fill to the top, but not so high that it will spill when moved around)

Four paper boats

Four single piece paper money cut up (nyaj txaug ntawv)
and one for each person you will laig dlaab to, as well as all your dlaab huv tsev.

A light or candle that will stay on for three days (Your suppose to keep the incense constantly burning for 3 days) You can buy a light that looks like a candle and keep it on for 3 days

First Step, Tsaa Txhaj Meej hab Pem Xeeb

You complete this part in the very early morning on the day you will and hu plig
Normally around 4 or 5am when the night is darkest.
You don't need to do this every year. Only if you feel your Txhaj Meej hab Pem Xeeb has fallen. Or when the previous year appears to be really bad and you need more luck the next year.
You should however do this every three years

Notes: There two ways to complete this task. Outlined below is method one. You use this method when you are doing this for yourself.
The 2nd method is to act as the Tuam los paav, You can use this method when doing this for yourself or doing it for another household (description here)

Complete this task while standing on the outside of your house front door

When done fold these two clothes and put them away until you do this again and have new clothes to replace these old ones.
Use a different red and white clothe to hang on the outside of your front door.
You don't need to burn the old one, just simple through it away.

House cleansing ( Cheeb Khawb also called npluav xub ntsaa)

Traditionally done with bamboo, make sure there are some leaves at the end of the bamboo. If you don't have access to a bamboo, you can use a tree branch with leaves at the end of it.
To brush the walls and ceilings to cleanse the house out your front door. Brush every room in the house.
Open your door, where ever you start you will end with pushing everything bad out your door

Remove all the old money paper above the doors
Remove the old Xiwm Kaab

Place them all in a spot, because you will burn them

( if this is your first time, theres nothing to remove. )

Hu Plig

Reminder
Horns, 1st step both facing up

Turn the cooked chickens towards the inside of the house when finishing the last step

Place some eggs, raw rice, one candle and three burning incense in a plate next to the live chickens You want the chicken to face toward the door

You will use one rooster and two hens because one roster and hen is used to Hu Plig
one hen is to hu plig qoob plig loo, plig nyaj plig kub, plig tsaj plig txhuv

Reminder, You hu plig two times, once with live chicken, 2nd time after with cooked chicken

If you want to, you can also hu plig every morning for the full three days. You go outside with three incense to do this since you already done it with the chickens. This is to make sure everyone heard you call them to come home.

Note : when you call them, ie... when you say words like "ca les lug" you need to use the kuam to tap the door. So they hear you call them to come home.

Flip the horns ( )
The goal is to get both horns to face up

You flip the horns right after you say the phrase "yaaj kuam qheb kev quas lug" when you hu plig above. This is the 2nd to last line.
If both sides of the horn are face up then you are done.
If they are not faced up you say the following and flip the horns again till they are faced up.

This time the goal is to get both horns to face down
The secound time is after phrase "yeeb kuam yuav qaws quas zog rua nruab kab nruab loog"
This time the sides must both be facing down, if they don't you say the following ...

With this complete you can now get the chickens ready for cooking.

Hu Plig 2nd time

Cook the three chickens. Note cook them as a whole not cut into pieces (vum qaab). Then place them in a bowl with some cooked eggs, cooked rice, candle and three burning incense
Make sure your not using the one that was used to Xiwm Kaab
Make sure the chickens are facing out the door

Then you hu plig again, exactly like the first time.
Remember to turn the chickens toward the inside of the house before you flip the horns (ntaus kuam) for the last time on the verse.

Txiwj Xiwm Kaab

Reminder
Light the candle, incense and pour the beer before you start
Horns, 1st step both facing up
2nd step both facing Down

Put up the new Xiwm Kaab, if you have not done so.

Placement of the Xiwm Kaab should preferably be somewhere where someone can see it when they first enter into your main front door. It is believed that the bad spirits will leave if they see the Xiwm Kaab, and will not enter the house. more details in meeting 19th "Old traditional hmong home, position of Xiwm Kaab"

Put a small table under the Xiwm Kaab spot, on top of the table place a large flat plate
Place the tawb muag lom in the middle of the large plate, with 4 incense in it
Put all the following items around the tawb muag lom, 4 rice patties, 4 filled shot glasses , 4 money paper (txaug ntawv), 4 single small paper money, 4 paper boat, bundle of incense sticks.

You need to hold the rooster with one arm so it is facing the new Xiwm Kaab
You will also need to hold the kuam in one hand because you will need to ntaus kuam

Both sides have to be facing down. If they don't you say the following phrase and ntaus kuam till they do.

Once completed with the verse you kill the rooster and glue the feathers to the new Xiwm Kaab using the blood of the chicken and put it up onto the spot where the old one was.
You want to paste it onto four spots in a square shape on the new Xiwm Kaab.

Fij Xiwm Kaab

Cook the 2 chickens.
Note : cook them as a whole, do not cut into pieces (vum qab)
1st chicken is the one you used to Txiwj Xiwm Kaab
2nd is the chicken you used to hu plig qoob plig loo, plig nyaj plig kub, plig tsaj plig txhuv

Bring the two chicken to offer to the Xiwm Kaab (Fij Xiwm Kaab)

You say the following phrase :

The women must prepare these items for the head of household to laig dlaab
You need one bowl with some of the chicken, one bowl of rice with 5 spoons in it, the inside of the spoon facing the inside of the bowl, one plate with one spoon in it for head of household
Then you call your ancestors that have passed, from your grand father and wifes all the way to you and those of your generation to come eat and in order from oldest to youngest
For each person or dlaab you must put rice first then pick a few chicken pieces and a little broth
And you say the following
